Andaman & Nicobar Short Trip

Introduction of Destination

The Andaman Islands are an archipelago in the northeastern Indian Ocean about 130 km (81 mi) southwest off the coasts of Myanmar‘s Ayeyarwady Region. Together with the Nicobar Islands to their south, the Andamans serve as a maritime boundary between the Bay of Bengal to the west and the Andaman Sea to the east. Most of the islands are part of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a Union Territory of India, while the Coco Islands and Prepares Island are part of the Yangon Region of Myanmar.

The Andaman Islands are home to the Andamanese, a group of indigenous people that includes a number of tribes, including the Jarawa and Sentinelese. While some of the islands can be visited with permits, entry to others, including North Sentinel Island, is banned by law. The Sentinelese are generally hostile to visitors and have had little contact with any other people. The government protects their right to privacy.

Best Time to Travel Andaman

In Summer-

The best time to visit Andaman is the summer season when the island enjoys a beautiful tropical climate. Summers in Andaman begin from April and extend up to June. The entire island is surrounded by lush greenery, graced by the warm, soothing sea breeze that breathes life into the place. The average daytime temperature ranges from 28 – 34 degrees Celsius, while nights are comparatively cooler with the mercury levels stooping down to 24 – 27 degrees.

It is also the best time to indulge in refreshing and stimulating water sports like jet skiing, scuba diving, surfing, snorkelling, paragliding and many more things to do in Andaman Islands. During the summer season, the tropical glory of the island is at its peak. Visit the acclaimed beauty of Radhanagar in Havelock, strolling by the shore with the background of a marvellous setting sun. The Ross and Smith Island Beach, Laxmanpur Beach of Neil Island, and the Wandoor Beach in Port Blair are unmissable places to visit in Andaman Islands.

You can treat yourself to a nice sunbath by the white sand shores of the beaches of Andaman, or spend a day resting in hammocks by the bay. In fact, the popular images that portray Andaman in blogs and magazines have been shot in the summers! It is literally the season when the island comes alive with lush tropical beauty.

In Winter-

Technically, Andaman does not experience ‘winter’ at all. Starting from October to March, the climate is very pleasant and cool, with an average daytime temperature falling somewhere between 25 to 30 degrees Celsius, and nighttime temperatures dropping down to about 20 to 22 degrees.

There is no chill here during these months, though. So, if you are looking for nice winter chills and subzero temperatures, Andaman isn’t the right pick. But the island is again open to an astonishing range of water sports and Andaman Sea cruises to indulge in. You can visit the soothing beauty of Port Blair, Long Island, Clique Islands, Neil Island, Radhanagar Beach, Little Andaman Island, Havelock Island, Diglipur and many more!

Apart from the summers, ‘winter’ is also a great time to pay a visit to Andaman for honeymoon. Not only do you get a considerably lesser crowd of tourists, but also lower-than-usual prices. Experience solitude and calm by the white sand shores of the crystal-clear beaches in Andaman when you visit during winters.

In Monsoon-

Monsoon in Andaman begins from July, and lasts upto September. It is the second of the two seasons that grace Andaman. Andaman temperature is pleasant, ranging from 24 to 32 degrees during the day, and dropping to 22 – 27 during the night. Since Andaman is essentially a tropical island, it receives heavy rainfall during monsoons, making it an uneventful experience for travellers. The annual rainfall in Andaman is about 300 mm.

Andaman Water sports like scuba diving, snorkelling, surfing, and jet skiing are shut during the monsoon, owing to the unpredictability of the weather and heavy rains. Amidst the incessant rainfall, there is hardly any time left to enjoy the outdoors, soaking up the sun, or even having a cocktail drink at the beach. Sea rides and cruises might also be shut during this time, again due to the reason. There might also be unexpected flight delays, by several hours. Travelling also becomes a daunting task. Although, if you are seeking to pamper yourself by staying in your resort room, consider monsoons. Treat yourself to luxurious and soothing indoor spas and massage centres. These resorts also host several stimulating indoor activities to take up.  The bottom line is that if you wish to enjoy a classic island experience, monsoon is not a good time to visit Andaman as there is not much to do and not many places to visit.
